The School Eisteddfod was a great success and we all enjoyed a feast of cooking, dancing and various other performances and competitions. A day to remebner for Henllys, Pedrog and Cwmwd the three houses with Cwmwd winning the Eisteddfod cup this year. A special thank you to all the judges and all who contributed to make the day such a memorable one for the children and staff.

We went for a lovely walk along the river towards the statue in Beddgelert, before collecting stones on Cricieth beach to research into size and pattern. 05/10/16 Welcome to a new academic year at Ysgol Llanbedrog!

Welcome to a new academic year at Ysgol Llanbedrog, with 79 children on our register, including 11 young pupils in the Nursery class. We are very pleased that all have settled exceptionally well, especially under the more challenging than usual circumstances this year, because of the building work. We also welcome Mrs Sian Elfryn as a new Foundation Phase teacher to the team.


Two classes have been totally re-built over the summer and are now in action, looking great. The hall, rooms adjoining the hall and the new extension are progressing well. We look forward to welcoming you to a visit when all is ready for us to show off!! It’s a very exciting development.

15/07/16 Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island)

childrenYear 5 and 6 children spent a wonderful day on Ynys Enlli recently. This was the first time for many of th children to step onto the island, and we had the time of our lives; enjoying the thrilling rides on Colin’s yellow boat, learning about the history and wildlife in the island by the Trust’s education officers and Mr Elfed Gruffydd, walking the length and breadth of the island to visit the lighthouse, school, houses, chapel and meeting the lazy, noisy seals that were lying lazily on the rocks!

childrenA scarecrow competition was held by Cyfiellion Ysgol Llanbedrog (Friends of Ysgol Llanbedrog) and was judged at the end of our sports evening. Local artist, Elin Huws, faced the difficult task of judging them, since each and every one was special, with its own personality! Congratulations to Sion Williams for winning, he received vouchers to Petal a Pot and to the Den.

childrenWe had a wonderful afternoon full of the Welsh classics of Meic Stephens, Frizbee, PAtrobas, Y Chwedlau, Bryn Fon, Mirain Evans and Gwibdaith Hen Fran. The school was filled with disgo and folk dancers giving it their all. We saw pictures of Football stars and heroes he had met and interviewed over the years, David Beckham, Ronaldo and even Gareth Bale! childrenWe had a full filled afternoon with Pwllheli Juniors Coach Barry Evans in the Leisure Center, everyone was very exited for the game between Wales and Russia that evening. childrenAs part of Healthy Eating week the Foundation Phase children have been busy learning about the healthy food plate and the importance of a balanced varied diet for a healthy lifestyle. We made delicious and healthy fruit kebabs that were a rainbow if colour. 13/06/2016 Year 6 Visit Cardiff

childrenYear 6 enjoyed a trip and a half to Cardiff with friends from Ysgol Pentreuchaf, Ysgol Nefyn, Ysgol Sarn Bach and Ysgol Chwilog. We left early on Monday morning and returned late on Wednesday evening. During those those three days, we managed to go swimming, bowling, visit the Senedd, Techniquest, Principality/Millennium Stadium, National Museum, cinema, Strada restaurant, bowling alley, city centre (shopping, market hall, castle…) as well as enjoying a thrilling powerboat ride in Cardiff Bay. What a great trip for Year 6 to remember from their time at Ysgol Llanbedrog!

10/06/2016 The Park

childrenAs part of our geography work this term, years 3 and 4 took part in some fieldwork in the village’s park. Firstly we had to review the amount of rubbish in the park, then we wrote a letter to the local councillor to state our concerns on the state of the park. Following this, the councillor Angela Russell, along with Keeping Wales Tidy, joined us to clean up the park. We received a response through letter from the Community Council. We created new posters to encourage the public to look after the park. The posters were well worth seeing at the park.

childrenYears 3 and 4 spent an adventurous couple of days in Plas Menai on the 21st and 22nd of April. Everyone had the opportunity to do some climbing, kayaking, sailing, canoeing and paddle boarding. Everyone was knackered after two unforgettable days!

We had the privilege of visiting the den exclusively before it was opened to the public. We had a wonderful afternoon whizzing down the slides, jumping into the ball pools and climbing through tunnels and nets. All the children were out of breath with big slides on their faces.

childrenNel Del from the Awyr Las Charity came to school to thank the Foundation Phase children for all the new toys they donated to Ward Dewi following their Christmas Show. The children decided to buy toys with the money raised that would benefit Children on The Dewi Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd. A total of £148 was raised and we hope they will bring joy to children who are not feeling very well on the Ward. It was lovely to see you again Nel.

It was a very fun-filled, enjoyable morning with Owain, Mari, Anni, DJ Sal from the programme Stwnsh, as well as the young pop group, ‘Storm’.

childrenIt was Christmas Jumper Day to support Save the Children, Macmillan Cancer Care and Text Santa. The children donated for wearing their jumper and we were all filled with a very Chrismassy feeling!!

childrenA group of children visited The Polish Home in Penrhos to entertain the residents with their Christmas songs. All had a wonderful time and were filled with Christmas cheer! Wesolych Świąt to all!

childrenShirley, our Road Safety Officer came over to announce the winners of the road sign design competition. In the New Year the road outside will have a speed restriction on 20mph. A huge congratulation to the children here on their winning designs.

childrenA feast was served of Roast Turkey, potatoes, carrots, sprouts, parsnips and peas by Anti Susan and a lovely mince pie for pudding. Thank you to Anti Susan, Anti Iona and Anti Rose for their work throughout the year.

15/12/2015 S4C Cyw Christmas Show

childrenThe Foundation Phase children had a fun filled afternoon in the company of Cathryn, Huw, Ben Dant, Dona Direidi, Sbarc and Cyw at the S4C Cyw Christmas Show. We were all on our feet singing and dancing to the music!


14/12/2015 ‘Y Goeden Nadolig’

childrenThe Foundation Phase Children were all praised for their fantastic show ‘Y Goeden Nadolig’ (The Christmas Tree). The magical tree taught us all about the magic of the First Christmas. The proceeds from the evening raffle and ticket sales will go towards new toys and resources for the play room on Dewi Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd.


14/12/2015 Key Stage 2 Christmas Service

childrenThe true meaning of Christmas was presented in a festive spirit at St. Pedrog’s church on Monday, December the 7th. The church was full to the rim with band Pwllheli accompanying the carol congregation. Congratulations to the children on a traditional and meaningful service.

childrenYears 2 and 3 visited the church in Botwnnog where they participated in the nativity story with members of the Anglican Church. It was a pleasure to join ysgol Foel Gron in the celebrations.

14/12/2015 Entertaining the elderly

childrenThe residents of Dolwar and Plas Hafan had the opportunity to hear part of the Christmas service by the children. They enjoyed their performance as well as having the chance to chat with the children.


14/12/2015 Plas Glyn Y Weddw

The children entertained Friends of the Plas at their annual Christmas dinner. Some of the children also joined Ann Hafod, Seimon Menai and Band Pwllheli at the carol concert on Sunday, December the 13th.

childrenP.C Owen visited years 3 and 4 to discuss the importance of treating every individual with respect and kindness and that every individual is important.


04/12/2015 False Baptism

childrenOn the 9th of November year 5 and 6 pupils were welcomed by the Reverend Andrew Jones at St Pedrog Church where he conducted a fake christening to reinforce the work participated in school by the children as part of their religious education studies.

childrenA recorder club has started for Key Stage two on Tuesday afternoons. The children enjoyed learning simple songs and went home with their own recorder and a practise book Looking forward now for the next club!


04/12/2015 Operation Christmas Child

childrenThe children have been busy creating Christmas boxes full of treats to support the charity’ Operation Christmas child. The boxes will be distributed all over the world to make sure that every child has a merry Christmas. Thanks to the 34 children who made the effort to bring a box to school.

childrenFoundation Stage pupils have been very busy creating Christmas hampers in the cooking club this week. We are creating hampers to enjoy over the festive holiday!


04/12/2015 Carol Singing in Abersoch

childrenOn November 27th the children sang carols in Abersoch as part of the Christmas celebrations. It was a pleasure to join Ysgol Abersoch and Ysgol Sarn bach to celebrate Christmas in a warm and homely atmosphere.

childrenEveryone came to school today wearing their pyjamas and gave a donation towards Children in Need, we also had a bake sale at play time and managed to raise £125 towards the cause.

childrenYears 3 and 4 visited Portmeirion as part of their Geography studies this term. Everybody worked hard studying the interesting architecture and landscape and worked on point of the compass.

We have been enjoying celebrating our ability to speak Welsh by supporting the Shwmae Sumai day. Everyone wore red, green and white clothing to come to school. We had a quiz pictures of famous Welsh people and a wonderful Welsh theme lunch. Keep your eyes peeled, there might be a picture of us on Heno S4C at 7.

childrenLibby, Stuart and Timmy the parrot from 'Don’t Touch Tell' came and gave us a magic show to remind us of the dangers of fluids and medicines that may be around the house. Everyone had a great time watching them do tricks and learned a very important lesson.

28/09/2015 Jam Poeth (Hot Jam)

childrenFollowing our afternoon gathering blackberries we were told by Anti Carys how to make a delicious jam. We had to prepare the fruit and remove any small insects and then weighed before being boiled. We then went to create a unique label and lid cover for our jam pot. Everyone went home with a pot of jam to share with the family.

childrenAs part of our theme this term we went around the school grounds and along the path to gather blackberries. Everyone had a wonderful afternoon, busy collecting blackberries and we had a few purple tongues and many purple hands by home time!

08/07/2015 Glan Llyn

childrenTwo fun packed days were spent by four of the year 5 girls at Glan Llyn on the 8th of June. They were busy taking part in outdoor activities such as the rope course, climbing wall, raft building, kayaking and archery, whilst making new friends with pupils from Ysgol Nefyn and Pentreuchaf.


07/07/2015 Fun Afternoon

On the 7th of July the children enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon to say farewell to year 6 pupils. The three school teams, Henllys, Pedrog and Cwmwd took part in a variety of competitive activities, with Henllys becoming the winning team. Following this, year 5 and 6 pupils worked hard on different stalls, selling cakes, face painting etc.


02/07/2015 Sponsored Walk

Thank you to everyone that joined us on our annual sponsored walk to Quarry Beach. A great crowd gathered at the school before setting off. A light refreshment was enjoyed at the beach and a chance to socialise and play before heading back home.


15/06/2015 Cricket

the team

The school’s cricket team was successful in a competition held at Bodegroes. They played extremely well going through to the final round on the 23rd. The ‘Cricket Spirit’ cup was also won by them as a result of incredible teamwork and exceptional behaviour towards members of the other teams. Well done, we’re very proud!

 

 

 


01/06/2015 In Character

imageKey Stage 2 pupils joined William Jones, one of the brave Welshmen, on his epic journey from Wales to Patagonia.They were transported back in time to the hardship of 1865 Wales; heard about Michael D. Jones's epic plans to create a new Welsh colony; experienced the fun and tragedy on board the Mimosa followed by the reality that greeted them on the shores of Patagonia. Everyone enjoyed the performance as the history came alive in front of their eyes.

 

 


20/05/2015 Plas Glyn Y weddw – Arddangosfa Patagonia 150

Key Stage 2 pupils visited Plas Glyn y Weddw to see the exhibition celebrating 150 years since the first Welsh settlers arrived at Patagonia. They saw the contemporary work by the artist Luned Rhys Parri who visited Patagonia recently and six other gallery artists. All the pupils were busy answering questions and looking for Welsh characteristics in different art works.


19/05/2015 Fake Wedding

imageIt was a day to remember day at St Pedrog Church on the day of the wedding. Years three and four had been very busy beforehand arranging card, invitations, order of service and studying suitable music for the service. The service was in the capable hands of Andrew Jones with Mrs Shirley Pritchard on the organ. A few e-mails and letters were written beforehand to ensure that everything was perfect for the bride and groom, Leus and Max. The reception was unforgettable, roast dinner made by Auntie Susan with cupcakes made by the children to follow.

 


18-20/5/15 Year 6’s Cardiff Trip

imageYear 6 children enjoyed a jam-packed three days in our capital city in the company of children from some other local schools; Nefyn, Sarn Bach, Pentreuchaf and Chwilog. We stayed in the Urdd’s centre in the Millennium Centre and enjoyed memorable visits to Techniquest, Millennium Stadium, cinema, swimming pool, maritime museum as well as a thrilling experience on a speedboat in the bay and scoffing more than one Cadwaladers’ ice cream!.

To coincide with the work on the theme ‘Yr Ardd’ (The Garden), the Foundation Phase children enjoyed a trip to Pili Palas, Anglesey, during which they had the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly amongst other garden creatures. It was an adventurous day full of fun.

 

 

 


23/4/15 Snowdon Walk

imageThe children of years 5 and 6 managed a conquest by walking all the way to the Summit of Snowdon, without much complaint! They ascended up the Pyg track and descended the Snowdon Ranger Path. It was a wonderful day; the sun was shining brightly, the views were breath-taking and every child persevered positively up and down. Well done, quite an accomplishment!
